Meet the Authors
When it comes to the subject of
overindulgence,
Jean Illsley Clarke,
Connie Dawson, and
David J. Bredehoft
are
recognized experts. In both keynotes and workshops (individually and
collectively), they offer creative and
convincing examples on how overindulgence affects the lives of children and what
to do instead.

Jean
Illsley Clarke
Ph. D. recently authored two books;
Self-Esteem: A Family Affair
and
Growing Up Again: Parenting Ourselves, Parenting Our Children.
She holds a Master of Arts degree in Human Development. Jean has
been awarded two honorary doctorates. The first, an Honorary
Doctor of Human Services from Sierra University and the second,
an Honorary Doctor of Letters from Concordia University, St.
Paul in the Spring of 2003. She is a teaching and supervising
member of the International Transactional Analysis Association
and a Nationally
Certified
Family
Life
Educator. Recently she was named Distinguished Alumna of the
Year and given the Larry Wilson Award by the College of Human

Connie Dawson,
Ph.D. is a therapist who uses an attachment-oriented perspective
in her work with adoptees and adoptive families. She sees
clients at the Attachment Center Northwest in Kirkland,
Washington, a facility which specializes in the treatment of
children who are adopted following their first parents' failure
to parent adequately, including many who are adopted
internationally. She also does adoption coaching, consults with
agencies and treatment facilities, presents workshops, and
teaches for several universities. She was a member of the
Counselor Education faculty at Portland State for five years and
is co-author with Jean Illsley Clarke of
Growing Up Again: Parenting Ourselves, Parenting Our Children.
Early in her career, she taught fifth and sixth grade and was a
member of the consultation and training department of The
Johnson Institute in Minneapolis, Minnesota. You may reach

David Bredehoft,
Ph.D., L.P., CFLE has been involved in the fields of psychology
and family education since 1974. He started the Psychology
Program at Concordia University in 1976 where he now chairs the
Social and Behavioral Sciences Department. He holds four
academic degrees, all in the areas of psychology, educational
psychology, and family social science. David is also a licensed
Psychologist in the State of Minnesota, a Certified Family Life
Educator through the National Council on Family Relations, and
has had Thirty-three years of experience in both research and
therapy. David has published over 60 articles in journals and
magazines and has presented papers at national conventions all
relating to interests in psychology, parenting, and families.
David is co-author with Michael Walcheski of
Family Life Education: Integrating
Theory and Practice
published by the National Council on Family Relations in
2003. David was named "2003 Certified Family Life Educator of the
Year" by the National Council on Family Relations. You may reach
